May 9, 2022, marks the 75th anniversary of the very first loan of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) — then known as “the International Bank” and later as the “World Bank”— which provided $250 million to France in support of the government’s ambitious effort to rebuild the French economy after the devastation of World War II.
